"Veeck: A Man For Any Season (DVD-Home)" Overview

Bill Veeck was a legend in baseball. He was the colorful owner of the Chicago White Sox (twice), the Cleveland Indians, and the old St. Louis Browns. His Chicago baseball roots go back to the 1920s when he actually planted the vines in the outfield in Wrigley Field.

This documentary is an intimate portrait of the man and his world, narrated by Bill's wife, Mary Frances. Produced in 1985, the year before he died, it includes candid interviews with Bill revealing his indomitable spirit and zest for life. It also features historical footage of old Comiskey Park, Wrigley Field, and many of the promotions that Bill was famous for creating, including the time he sent 3'7" Eddie Gaedel to pinch hit for the St. Louis Browns. He was called "The Barnum of Baseball" for his showmanship, but he was also a deep, lovable, down-to-earth "regular guy."

DVD special features include an extra-personal conversation with Bill in his South Side Chicago home and a collection of commentaries he did from a bar stool on the Emmy award winning television show, Time Out, in 1984-'85.

This product is manufactured on demand using DVD-R recordable media. Amazon.com's standard return policy will apply.
